More than anything, Tanlan Ride started out as a range for horses and other livestock. It was fairly remote and not connected to much, until the Royal Highway found its way through. Tanlan quickly became more important as it linked closely to the Dayo Empire Hub at Kalapi Downs.
For many years, Tanlan Ride remained a sleepy clearing along the Highway. Then, a Topian delegation looking for a place to expand a Beetopia enclave found an ideal spot across the river in Tanlan. After beginning construction, they found a rare breed of bee that were dubbed "Tanlan Riders" that produced a hybrid with the Topian Bees that produced a superior type of honey.
The Tantopian Hybrid honey is used in producing superior candles, mead and other goods, sold through a shop in Tanlan and exported through the Empire.
Tanlan Ride is also a frequent destination for delegates staying at Kalapi Downs, being the shortest Portal trip and a nice easy ride along the Royal Highway.
In the center of the village stands the Troth Tree, a symbol of the young men and women who pledge themselves to each other in marriage. When a couple decide to wed, the woman weaves a banner of the family colors together along with a symbol or decoration the couple choose to symbolize their union together. The man then climbs as high as he is able and attaches the banner for the whole village to see.
The sturdy banners hang until the couple's firstborn pledges their own Troth, and the banner is brought down and hung at their house.
